Sunday

I found myself incredibly fortunate to be spending Easter Sunday with such good company. I had Easter brunch with my friends Shawn and Dale and then had Easter Lunch with my friend, Kohl's, family.
I first met Kohl's family Thanksgiving of 2007, and fell in love with them instantly. Their heart, wit and hospitality is unlike any other.

Slackers

Ink

I spent an hour or so searching the internet for visuals to base my next tattoo off of. Right now I am considering a birdcage made of dogwood branches. I decided that I wanted all of my tattoos to be based off of William Blake poems, and a birdcage or an old dandelion with the seeds blowing away are the last two ideas left to edit. My favorite William Blake poem is called "Eternity" and I figured having the word "Eternity" stamped on my body would only lead people to assumptions about me. Anyhoo, I was at my assignment this morning and there was a dogwood branch. I wonder if I should take is as a sign.
I am taking suggestions...

Eternity
He who binds himself a joy
Does the wing'd life destroy
He who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sunrise

River Rescue

In the past year or so I picked up the center composition habit. I often fail by not having any depth or layers, so this is one of my current goals I am trying to work on.

Let's Get Together and Feel All Right

Oh man, what a night. Where to start. Earlier this week I helped judge NPPA and since then I have been chomping at the bit to shoot better photos. And yesterday was my day. The sun was out, it was beautiful weather and I had two fun assignments. One assignment was a river cleanup and the second was a Y-12 National Security Complex protest. I finally shot a few frames that gave me the warm fuzzies that I was looking for... nothing amazing mind you, just a couple feel goods. Well after being sick this week and working my third 12 hour day, I was cramming to make deadline last night. In all my commotion I hit some key command that magically vanished all of my frames from the protest, minus the three I had toned for the paper. I searched the computer, the trash - nothing. I finally resorted to image rescue and could only recover the first half of the frames... the first half before the protesters reached Y-12.
Le sigh.
So this is all I salvaged from the shoot.

Fun Day Monday!

If you look back at November 2008's posts you will find one where I got to spend time with the Senor family during my internship in Michigan. Well its been four months and I am now interning at the Knoxville News Sentinel, and ironically, Andrew Senor just moved to Asheville, NC, which is a measly two hours from me. We decided to meet up and Gatlinburg and hang out yesterday. If one can have too much fun, we crossed that line!

Going Green

Ms. Duncan owns Greenway School, and just bought an electric car. By the way, can you guess her favorite color.... This was just a shot I grabbed while she was waiting for her husband at the school.

Out of Context

Spring has Sprung and the Fun has Begun

Ok first off, that title is totally an inside joke.... let me let you in! I had a friend that worked at a portrait studio and had to answer the phone like that, and anytime I was in a bad mood I would just call so I could hear him, a "very serious photographer" say it. Giggles every time.
Anyway, I am not crazy about this photo, just thought I would put it up for giggles.

Thought Wrong

Do you ever leave a feature and think to yourself, "Hey, I got a pretty cool shot," only to return home and realized either a) you missed it, b) you messed it up, or c) nothing cool really ever happened? I think choice "a" is what got me. I had a ton of fun hanging out with these kids, but didn't seem to get the picture I thought I had. Try, try, try again.
